Ray revealed exclusively to People on March 1 that she welcomed a baby boy via adoption. “Isaac Ray Beard was born on November 7th and he kind of came into our life, it was quite a whirlwind,” the actress, who is currently starring in her tenth season of the CBS drama, said.
TheBlue Bloods star explained that she and her husband, fellow actor and producer Landon Beard, weren’t initially set on having kids. “My husband and I weren’t totally sure if we were going to have kids, at what point in our life that made sense and all those things,” she explained. “I was at work one day, honestly I was about to do a family dinner and I just had this overwhelming sensation of family and what I love about our life and all of these things.”
The actress recalled calling her husband crying and saying to him, “I think we’re supposed to be parents” and “I think we’re supposed to adopt.”Ray revealed that she talked to actor Peter Hermann, the husband of Law & Order: SVUstar Mariska Hargitay. Hermann and Hargitay adopted their son Andrew and daughter Amaya.
“Graciously, he [Peter] really held our hand and walked us through everything that we would need to know about adoption,” Ray explained. “It’s a lot of first dates almost. It almost feels like there’s a ton of heartbreak that comes along with it.”
Ray said that they put their information up on an adoption website on a Monday and by the following Saturday, the two were on a plane to meet a potential birth mother. “It went super fast,” Ray said. “She was like, ‘He’s due in four weeks, so we have to do this quickly.’ We were like, ‘Whoa, okay.'”
Their newborn son Isaac was born a week early, which corresponded one day before the actor’s strike ended. “So we can attribute Isaac [to] ending the strike,” the actress joked to the site. “It all happened in three weeks, really from zero to three weeks. Then we were bringing him out and it was incredible.”
Although the couple has only had Isaac for three months, Ray said the transition went smoothly. “I don’t want moms and dads to come for me everywhere, but he does sleep. He’s just like me. He’s just like his mama. He loves to sleep and he loves to eat.”
She also recalled telling Blue Bloods executive producer Kevin Wade about the exciting news. “I was like, ‘Just so you know, I’m not in New York at the moment,’ ” she remembered. “I was like, ‘Here’s the thing I got to let you know. I have a baby. He was just born and I’m not sure when we’re going to be back.'”
Ray also called herBlue Bloodscostars to tell them about their new baby, including Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg. “Of course I called Bridget right away and she was thrilled. Then I FaceTimed Donnie [Wahlberg] and I go, ‘We have something to tell you.’ He was like, ‘Are you pregnant?’ ” the star revealed, noting that Wahlberg knew right away.
She shared People’s exclusive photos on her Instagram on March 1. “💙Isaac Ray Beard born 11.07.23💙
Oh the love you have coming your way in this life baby boy… and you are worthy of every last bit of it! The adventures the 3 of us have already had together could fill a novel. Thanks for making us your parents. We love you… like, the MOST. 💙💙💙💙” she captioned the post.
