This 2024, another Transformers movie joins the lineup, making it the eighth one in the series. So far, we’ve experienced Transformers (the OG), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight, Bumblebee and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
This latest instalment shows the history of the Transformers plus the fall of the friendship between Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth) & D-16 (Brian Henry). Once coworkers and closer than brothers, the movie shows Orion Pax and D-16 at loggerheads, eventually becoming archenemies on the planet of Cybertron. It features personified robots that may have emotions. Since 2020, there have been rumours swirling around about the movie’s production. Now that it’s been confirmed in 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting its release.

Transformers
Originally a Hasbro’s toy line which evolved into a live-action movie, the franchise kicked off with a television series in 1984 – The Transformers. Upon this basis was the inspiration of the 1986 animated movie – The Transformers: The Movie. 40 Years later, the second animated movie is set to be in cinemas in 2024. The first live-action movie released in 2007 – Transformers and the most recent, Transformers Rise of the Beast (2023) shows how the series has evolved and changed over the years.
Transformers One Cast
After portraying the role of Thor in different Marvel movies, it’s safe to say that Chris Hemsworth understands what it means to play a hero. Thus, he is the main protagonist of the movie, Optimus Prime. Aside from his iconic portrayal of Thor, Hemsworth has left his mark in other notable releases including Extraction, Snow White and the Huntsman, and most recently, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Optimus Prime is famous for the iconic red, dark blue, and chrome colour scheme he’s got going on. His accolades include a Kids’ Choice Award & People’s Choice Award, a sign that fans just can’t get enough of him.
Applauded for his outstanding roles in Atlanta, Eternals and Bullet Train, Brian Tyree Henry also stars in Transformers One. Henry was brought into the limelight by his rapper role, Alfred in Atlanta. He plays the role of D-18 also known as Megatron, a close friend turned archenemy to Optimus Prime.
Starring alongside Hemsworth is another member of the Autobots, Scarlett Johansson. With countless awards to her name, including being the world’s highest-paid actress in 2018-2019 and being named one of the 100 most influential people in the world, her movies have grossed over $15 billion.
Her movie credits have made possible 5 Golden Globe Awards, a Tony Award and a British Academy Film Award amongst a long list of nominations. Previously, she had portrayed Marvel’s Black Widow in Iron Man, and in Transformers One, she takes on the role of Elita-1.
Two-time Screen Actors Award recipient, Steve Buscemi returns but as the antagonist Starscream which is ironic because he actually played Daytrader in Transformers: The Last Knight. Also starring in the movie is Laurence Fishburne (best known for The Matrix), who boasts three Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. Fishburne takes on the role of an Autobot, Alpha Trion.
Another familiar face joining the franchise is Jon Hamm, our very own Don Draper from the Mad Men series. Two-time Golden Globe Award winner, Hamm would feature in the movie as Sentinel Prime. Keegan Michael-Key (Key & Peele) is Bumblebee.
The star-studded cast feels unreal, but however true. Fans are already whipped into a frenzy of excitement.
Transformers One Joshua Cooley
Written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the duo who had successfully written Antman & the Wasp. Supporting writers include Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman who have also worked on Monster and Knock at the Cabin.
Transformers One was directed by Joshua Cooley whose first directorial debut was in the fourth installment of Toy Story which earned him an Academy Award for best animated feature. Cooley directed Inside Out, which also earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
He worked with producers Aaron Dem, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Don Murphy on the production of Transformers One.
Transformers One Plot
Returning to Cybertron where it all began, Optimus and Megatron start off as best of friends. This friendship becomes sour which leads them to become arch-enemies. It also explains the origins of the Autobots & Decepticons rivalry, a true fight against inequality.
Transformers One Trailer
The trailer gives us a close look at the character designs and dives into the backgrounds of Optimus Prime and Megatron before they became the iconic Transformers we’ve come to love. It takes us to the beginning and shows them as friends before things take a turn.
We can see that the bond between both characters is threatened by a mysterious conspiracy that eventually leads them to become lifelong enemies. It’s a solid trailer that sets the stage for what’s to come.
